Sabrina L. Dunn’s acquittal comes after spending nearly 5 years incarcerated.
Our trusted colleague, Bob Bottorff of Bob Bottorff Law PC, successfully appealed her conviction before the Indiana Supreme Court with a 5-0 decision and Ms. Dunns 2020 murder conviction was vacated on April 10, 2024.

1999 Civil – Estate of Paula Ross, et al vs. Town of Gaston and Marshall Ray Gillespie
Testified at trial. Jury award of 1.75 million dollars. Richard Waples and Jaunae Hangar, Attorneys at Law.
2007 Civil – Piasse vs. City of Joliet (Will County Case No. 02 L 580 Twelfth Judicial Circuit). Deposed. Settled out of court for undisclosed amount. Block, Block, & Klukas, P.C. Attorneys at Laws
2009 Civil – Beyer vs. City of Joliet, et al. (Will County Case No. 05 L 494 Twelfth Judicial Circuit). Deposed. Settled out of court for undisclosed amount. Block, Klukas & Manzella, P.C. Attorneys at Law. Case appealed and affirmed February 13, 2014.
2010 Civil – James Fenton, et al., vs. City of Chicago (case No. 06 L 7956). Testified at trial. Jury award of 2.3 million dollars which was affirmed by the 1st District Appellate Court . David Nemeroff, Nemeroff Law Offices Ltd.
2011 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Jason A Reber (Porter Circuit Superior Court cause number 64D04-1003-CM-2940 and 64D04-1003-FD-2565). Testified at trial. Guilty of Domestic Battery, Class A misdemeanor, and Interference with Reporting of a Crime, a Class A misdemeanor. Pled guilty to Invasion of Privacy. Not guilty of Strangulation. Appealed convictions and case was affirmed.
2012 Civil – Amy Leichtenberg, on her own behalf and as Administrator of the Estate of Duncan Leichtenberg, and as Administrator of the Estate of Jack Leichtenberg, Plaintiff, v. City of Leroy, Police Officers Dustin Wiseman, Police Officer Nathan Wilkins, Police Officer Jason Williamson, and other Unknown Officers of the Leroy Police Department, Defendants. (United States District Court for the Central District of Illinois Peoria Division Case No. 10-CV-1253) Deposed. March 2013 an out-of-court settlement was reached. The amount was undisclosed.
2013 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Jarrod W. Campbell (Wells Circuit Court cause number 90C01-0911-FD-00075) Class D Felony Domestic Battery in the Presence of a Child. Testified at trial. Convicted by jury.
2014 Civil – Claim against City of Tucson/Tucson Police Department; Hicks Wrongful Death Claim; John and Wendy Hicks, Claimants; Martin Rodriguez and Michael T. Hestekin II, The Rodriguez Law Firm, PLLC. Affidavit with professional opinions concerning the case prepared and submitted. The case was mediated and settled January 2014.
2014 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Josh A. Abbott (Jefferson Superior Court cause number 39D01-1402-FB-104). Testified at sentencing. Pled to 3 felonies and 1 misdemeanor. Sentenced to 8 years on each felony and 1 year on the misdemeanor.
2014 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Dominic E. Beaven (Jefferson Superior Court cause number 39D01-1401-FC-93). Testified at sentencing. Pled to Felony Battery, Strangulation, Invasion of Privacy, and Domestic Battery. Sentenced to 10 years.
2015 Civil – Bethany Campbell vs. City of Franklin, TN Circuit Court Williamson County, TN; Kevin Klein, Klein Bussell, PLLC. Affidavit with professional opinions concerning the case prepared and submitted. The case was settled subject to a confidentiality agreement in late 2015.
2016 Civil – Bailey R. (Werner) Dailey v. Justin L. Piersimoni (Steuben County Circuit Court cause number 76C01-1105-JP-000152). Testified as to the dynamics of domestic violence and the effects of domestic violence on children. Dailey found in contempt. Case appealed and decision reversed.
2016 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Brittany Martin (Marion County Criminal Division Cause Number 49G02-1610-MR-040950.) Provided testimony at bond reduction hearing and consulted with defense attorneys. Found not guilty after 1 hour and 10 minutes of deliberation by the jury. (The defendant shot and killed her abuser.)
2017 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Danielle H. Drescher (Newton County Cause No.: 56D01-1506-F3-000001). Affidavit with professional opinions concerning the case prepared and submitted. A plea bargain was reached prior to trial with the defendant serving no jail time. (The defendant stabbed her abuser.)
2019 Civil – Adolfo Medina and Martha Medina, surviving parents of Clarissa Medina; Sarahi Ailynn Quintero and Ellen Arahis Quintero, surviving minor children of Clarissa Medina, by and through their legal guardians, Stephanie Medina and Martha Medina, Plaintiffs, vs. City of Somerton, a body politic and corporate; John Does and Jane Does 10, Defendants. Wrongful Death Claim – Medina v. Somerton Police Department (Yuma County, AZ). The Rodriguez Hestekin Law Firm, PLLC. Initial draft of opinions written. Settlement of $1.8 million reached through mediation in October 2019.
2019 Civil – In the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii, Donna Garcia, Individually and as Guardian Ad Litem for her minor children, J.L. and G.L., Plaintiff, vs. City and County of Honolulu; Ronald J. Lombardi; Lanell Arakawa; Nathan Hee; Paul Lee; and John and/or Jane Does 1-10, Defendants. Civil No. 18-00100 ACK/KSC. Case involving a police officer.
2022 Criminal – State of Indiana v. Jordan Knudson (Ripley County Cause No.: 69C01-2103-MR-00001). Testified at pre-trial 404(B) hearing. Knudson found guilty of murder and sentenced to 65 years in prison.
2023 Criminal – State of Indiana County of Dearborn v. Mohammed T. Mondal (Cause No. 15C01-2311-MR-0001). Consulted with Prosecutor Lynn Deddens on expert witness testimony. On 10/31/2024 the case was dismissed without prejudice, as “continued investigation and review of the physical and medical evidence available to the State of Indiana now shows that, in all probability, Stacy Mondal was shot in Ohio, and that she actually died in Ohio.” Mohammed Mondal was indicted for murder in Hamilton County, OH on 10/31/2024 and he will be prosecuted there.
2024 Criminal – State of Indiana vs. Sabrina L. Dunn (Orange Circuit Court No. 59C01-2010-MR-720) Indiana Supreme Court (Supreme Court Case No. 24S-CR-123) ruled on 04/10/2024 that Dunn’s murder conviction was vacated and remanded back to the trial court for further proceedings. Testified at trial for the defense on 02/12/2025. Not guilty verdict reached by jury on 02/13/2025.
