About Davis Corporate Training
For more than 25 years, Davis Corporate Training, Inc. has been providing customized training to advocates, churches, corporations, communities, judges, law enforcement, prosecutors, healthcare professionals, mental health organizations, and educational institutions to prevent violence and to implement intervention strategies and systems. Dottie Davis is the Founder and President of Davis Corporate Training, Inc., a private consulting business. Dottie is a dynamic professional who provides keynote presentations, workshops, and serves as a strong moderator for panel presentations. She speaks nationally and internationally on topics surrounding family violence, legal issues and liability for law enforcement, law enforcement’s response to persons in a mental health crisis, supervision and leadership, ethics, women in non-traditional careers, and workplace violence prevention. She also consults as an expert witness in both civil and criminal cases.
About Dottie
Dottie Davis began her career in law enforcement in 1981 with the Fort Wayne (IN) Police Department (FWPD) where she served for nearly 32 years. Dottie held the rank of patrol officer, sergeant, lieutenant, captain, and last served as the Director of Training at the Academy and held the rank of Deputy Chief. She also served as a hostage negotiator for 7 years.
She implemented the Crisis Intervention Team with the Fort Wayne Police Department, to better serve individuals in a mental health crisis with dignity and respect. Due to this work, she has received several awards from the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
Dottie was also instrumental in bringing the Lethality Assessment Program to the agency, to assist first responders in determining whether a victim of domestic violence was at risk of homicide. In 2003, she was the first female officer of the FWPD selected to attend the National FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. During her career she received numerous commendations, including two Meritorious Service Citations.
During her employment with FWCS, she developed and implemented safety protocols for 63 buildings, which included a district-wide emergency plan utilizing plain talk, installation of secure vestibules and training to properly vet visitors, mass push notifications in the event of a lockout or lockdown, and creating a visitor/vendor/volunteer management system that was installed in all schools within the district to identify sex offenders and excluded parties, as well as to know who was on premise in the event of a critical incident. Training for administrators on how to effectively use security within their buildings, and training for security personnel for them to understand school policy vs. law were both essential training modules designed by Dottie for FWCS and other school districts. She has presented at several conferences on school safety throughout the country.
In 2019, Dottie further enhanced her skills and training capabilities by completing the Advanced Threat Assessment Academy through Gavin de Becker and Associates, and the Training Institute on Strangulation Prevention through Alliance for HOPE International. She is a lifelong learner, and continues to annually attend trainings to enhance her knowledge and keep her skills fresh and relatable, including the Train-the-Trainer Crisis Response Intervention Team Course.
Dottie has spoken at the National District Attorneys Association (NDAA) Conference on Domestic Violence from 1999 through 2011. In 2006, she received the Stephen L. VonRiesen Lecturer of Merit Award from the NDAA. Dottie has also lectured in Canada for the International Association of Women Police, The Ontario Provincial Police, and VCARS, a victim advocates group.
Dottie is the 2007 recipient of the ATHENA Award given by the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce, which is awarded to individuals for “professional excellence, for providing valuable service to their community and for assisting women in their attainment of professional goals and leadership skills”.
In 2012 she received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Rocky Mountain Women in Law Enforcement organization in Colorado.
Dottie is a contracted trainer for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, CIT International, the Law Enforcement Training and Technical Assistance Consortium, Fair and Impartial Policing, and the Indiana Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
Dottie also serves as a Board member for the Community Harvest Food Bank, Fort Wayne Sexual Assault Treatment Center, and School Care Team. She is an advisory board member for SafeHiring Solutions as well, and sits on numerous committees for non-profit organizations.
